Cover Page Christmas Traditions around the World

Each of the classrooms will create researched reports, presentations, art work, foods, games, and dances reflecting on the diversity of people. The performances for their selected country will be shared with family and community the beginning of December .
Using library books, on line sources to send and receive information on customs and culture in countries around the world the students will begin developing the skills of researching . They will be finding out about other countries and creating a connection to the holiday traditions of other countries.. This project allows teachers can gather sites that can be used by students in their classroom but also in other classrooms as well.
Project based learning will give students hands on learning and will allow for their own interests to be explored.Teachers will meet to plan the time-line and brainstorm ideas to get started. Students will be involved with brainstorming discussions also as they to learn about their own traditions. The students will list of things that they do at Christmas in their homes. Whole group activities and then small groups choosing one tradition to research. Developing questions, like when and where did this tradition begin. What reason might it have been done? Do you know someone who does the tradition differently? What other country can you find that has a tradition similar.

I chose to use the wiki that I set up for the online communication tool for this collaboration project. Teachers can gather information suited to their age level but also send sites and information to the other teachers that they may find, to enrich the other classrooms studies. Specialists can be kept up to date on classroom activities which would help in lesson planning for lessons to enhance learning. Planning, questions, help, and encourage ment can be posted to involve all teachers so the process can be tweaked to work better.
After some glitches I was able to create a workable wiki for my project.
The site can be reached from home as well as school so added entries are easier to share. E mail back and forth works but access is not always available. I do have frustrations with this program because not all tools are readily there. I could not find how to rearrange my pages on the contents. I used alphabetical order but couldnot get them to move into better position. The program was slow and sometimes locked up. I must need more one on one lessons. I do much better when I can see how things work, as well as hearing the steps. Finding the right site just takes me longer.
